SHARING LIFE EXPERIENCES

Handling patience, flexibility and adaptability in the work and academic context is of great importance because it allows us to have a better work environment, to have an effective solution to problems and at the same time helps us to grow as people, then I share my work experience where it is evident how to reach the resolution of a conflict through patience, flexibility and adaptability.

I used to work at a convenience store with four colleagues who were all around my age. We understood each other well and were a proactive and efficient team. However, one of the girls had to quit, and a new person joined our team - a woman who was about 20 years older than us. At first, we gave her an induction and started working well together. Nevertheless, over time, the work environment became heavy and annoying because she didn't seem to want to work as a team, instead, she just gave orders. I realized that the situation wasn't improving, so I decided to talk to all the girls, including her, and tell them that the work environment wasn't positive and that we had to do something about it as a team. Unfortunately, she took it personally and made the situation worse. But I knew I had to be patient and flexible, so I tried to understand her behavior. I realized that due to her age difference, work experience, and the way she saw us as "young girls" rather than colleagues with the same capabilities, I had to explain things to her in a clearer way, telling her that we weren't against her, but against her bossy attitude. As a result, she understood better, and over time, both she and we adapted to the new team, achieving a healthy and efficient work environment.
Reflecting on this experience, I believe that flexibility and adaptability helped me to deal with the situation in the best way. I understood that there was a reason behind her behavior, and I didn't judge her or say that she wasn't suitable for the job. If I had to do it again, I would be more direct from the start, so she wouldn't take it personally. I should have been clearer in my communication to avoid misunderstandings. If she had been more open-minded, we would have had a better working relationship. If I were in a similar situation again, I would have to be more proactive in addressing the issue. I must admit that it was a challenging experience, but it taught me the importance of empathy and clear communication in the workplace.
In terms of vocabulary about initiative and self-direction, I would say that I took the initiative to address the issue and directed the conversation towards finding a solution. I also had to be flexible and adaptable to understand her perspective and find a way to work together effectively. This experience has taught me that when working with people from different backgrounds and ages, we must be willing to listen and adapt to achieve a positive work environment. If we don't, we might end up with a dysfunctional team.
Some key takeaways from this experience are:

- When working with people from different backgrounds, we have to be patient and flexible.
- Clear communication is essential to avoid misunderstandings.
- We should always try to understand the other person's perspective.
- If we are proactive and direct, we can resolve issues more efficiently.
- Flexibility and adaptability are crucial in achieving a healthy and efficient work environment.

In conclusion, this experience has taught me valuable lessons about teamwork, communication, and adaptability. I believe that if I had to face a similar situation again, I would be better equipped to handle it, and I would have to use all the skills and knowledge I have acquired to achieve a positive outcome.
